NASA Goddard Disability Employment Awareness Month Activities

October is designated as an opportunity for the GSFC community to gain an awareness of various aspects of disability and accessibility needs. The Equal Opportunity Programs Office is sponsoring a number of events that would be of particular interest to management, supervisory staff, and others who will likely face issues relating to hidden disabilities, cognitive conditions such as ADD/ADHD or depression, or how employees may acquire a disability over their career. Disability Employment Awareness Month Kick-off Event

Wednesday October 1: 10:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Bldg 8 Auditorium:
GSFC's Equal Opportunity Programs Office, the Equal Accessibility Advisory Committee, and the African American Advisory Committee starts Disability Employment Awareness Month with a ceremony recognizing the potential and accomplishments of individuals with disabilities and accessibility needs. Featured speaker will be Anil Lewis of the National Federation of the Blind of Georgia and entertainment will be presented by the Wild Zappers, a Deaf African American male dance company.

Disability Mentoring Day

Tuesday October 7: 8:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. Various Locations

Cognitive and Psychological Disabilities Training

Training and discussion opportunity for supervisors and employees on Cognitive and Psychological Disabilities. Kendra Drinkwater, a specialist with the Job Accommodations Network will be leading the session.
• Session 1: 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Supervisors, team leads, project managers
• Session 2: 1:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. Open to all employees

Assistive Technology Showcase – Maryland Technology Assistance Programs
